ΑΥΤ Κ ΟΥΑΛƐΡΙΑΝΟϹ ϹƐ Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust r. Rev. ΑΔΡ ΜΟΨƐΑΤΩΝ / ΠΥΡΑΜΟϹ, ƐΤ ΓΚΤ, ΔΩΡƐΑ Bridge with five arches in which inscription; at end of bridge to l., triple arch, to r. single arch; on bridge river god Pyramos reclines l. SNG France 1998. RPC id 60498.19 (this coin illustrated).
Rare and intriguing issue with an architectural reverse. Nice light brown-green patina, rough surface and minor smoothing; otherwise About Extremely Fine.
The Greek word δωρεά (gift) indicates that the bridge was the result of imperial munificence. It is quite possible that, as the city was situated on a major route eastward into Commagene and Cyrrhestica, and consequently the Persian frontier, the bridge was constructed to ensure rapid deployment of Roman troops to the East./ CNG 88 Lot 985 description /
