Hadrian 117-138 A.D. Corinthia
A. IMP CAES TRA HADR AVG P P
R. COL L IVL COR
The geteway from the Agora on the road to Lechaeum is surmounted by two gilded chariots. Is one stands Phaethon, son of Helios, and in the other Helios himself.
Pausanias descirbes the arch shown on the reverse of this specimen, positioned out through the Lechaion Road which was the northernen entrance to the forum and has been impressed enough to record the presence of the arch and the statues that crowned its attic: two gilded chariotgroups with Helios and Phaethonas drivers. Only the heavy foundations of the arch are preserved to this day.
Ae.25, 11,90 g. Very rare.
